Put A Shine On It. Natural Glass Care

Nature rail ways to clean glass at home.

Nature rail ways to clean glass at home.

Are you tired of dull-looking glassware and glass surfaces? Every home has glass in it, whether you’re drinking out of it or looking through it. There are many different products for cleaning glass, but some of them leave much to be desired.

They may be too rough on glass or they may not make it sparkle as it should. Below are some tips and tricks that will help every glass surface or glassware shine with the brilliance that glass was meant for. These are only natural products, and some can even be found right in your own home.

Vaseline (petroleum jelly)

I know it may seem strange but just trust me. For chemical build-up in your glassware, smear the glass surface with it and leave overnight, or longer. Then wipe off, wash clean, and take time to admire the shine.

Denatured alcohol

Yes, people, the alcohol has been changed from consumption to cleaning. Methylated spirits rubbed on the outside panes of your windows will make them shine and bring out the iridescence.

Toothpaste

Not only is it great for cleaning teeth but also for cleaning glass. Go ahead and pick up a few extra tubes in the grocery store and expect good results.

Efferdent tablets

Sticking to the teeth cleaning (God or doctor created) efferdent tablets clean dentures and are very effective in cleaning glassware. Fun fact: the tablets contain a solid form of peroxide which does the cleaning part. Fill your glass with water, add two tablets, and let it stand for an hour or more.

Citric acid

A homemade concentrated solution can be produced by reducing pure lemon juice in a saucepan on the stove to half its volume. Use the cooled liquid by letting it lie on the surface for at least an hour, then wiping it off. It will not only clean the glass but also make it shine.

Diluted Vinegar

Dilute the vinegar with a little water and you have a very effective glass cleaner. For difficult to reach areas, use a small, soft-haired artist’s brush.

Sun’s Out, Cleaning supplies in

Bright sun is a no-no for cleaning glass. It will dry the panes too quickly and you will be left with unattractive streaks on your windows. Wait for a dull day and you’ll get the best results.
